PHP has been around for more than 10 years already and it seems like its popularity will be on high level on many years to come.

It offers quite high extensibility, which is a great asset and a deal-breaker when choosing the right technology for your website. In the recent years it has become increasingly fast and light especially with the introduction of the new php8 version.

Popular PHP frameworks that we frequently use

We specialize in making custom solution adjusting to client's budget and timeframe with the given frameworks.

Currently the most popular and widely used PHP framework out there. Everyone heard of it.

Frequently used as a framework but also integrated in some of the project on its own - i.e. Magento

Fastest to setup out of this trio. Its blazing fast, slim but also allows a lot of freedom.

Apart from framework usage, we at ExN, use PHP in e-commerce most often than note. This is also a huge factor why PHP is still the most popular scripting language out there. WordPress, Magento, Shopify, all of them use PHP in the backend to serve their customers.

W3Techs reports that, as of January 2022, “PHP is used by 78.1% of all the websites whose server-side programming language we know”.

Fun Fact - History of PHP

PHP history dates back to 1994 when Rasmus Lerdorf made a CGI – Common Gateway Interface in C programming language. He used CGI to maintain his personal homepage. At a later point he made them available with web forms and added database communication and named it Personal Home Page Interpreter or PHP.

It’s also worth noting that PHP was initially not intended to be a programming language by the creator. It got to that point naturally with many people contributing and that’s why we’re seeing some inconsistency in the naming of certain function/methods/classes.

The first version of PHP dates back to 8th June 1995 and right now we’re expecting a release of 8.2 in November. That’s more than 27 years of PHP existance!
